MERRY MONTH OF MAY
It is so invigorating to hear the birds chirping and to watch the flowers blooming. The month of May brings with it many home maintenance chores for us. First we open up the windows and let in the fresh air. We use our fireplace to heat the house during the winter, so we have to wash our log walls inside because of the dust from wood heat. This is quite an undertaking but when it is all done, it’s the same feeling of walking out into the spring air. Garden hoses, sprinklers, flower pots, lawn furniture, and bicycles are just a few things that need to be hauled out of storage. The inspiration to get all this completed in a timing fashion is our fishing boat, canoe and camper. In Wisconsin summer months can be as unpredictable as our winter months so at the first sign of warm weather, we hit the road running.
One thing I never have to get out of storage is my camera. My camera bag sits out for easy access and has become somewhat of a piece of furniture along with my tri-pod. As the kids have gotten older and more independent, I’m finding myself with more pictures of the dogs and the scenery surrounding me. With piles and piles, boxes and boxes of family pictures to scrapbook yet, I’m realizing my photography style is changing. I really enjoy taking scenery and architectural photos … nobody grumbles back at me to hurry up, but I have to make sure to take the time to continue to sneak in a family photo and pictures of the kids hanging out with their friends. My son has a video camera to document all the things he enjoys and my daughter is hauling around her own camera to capture her special moments. I’m feeling a little lost because I don’t have control over the moments being preserved, but I’m grateful that they are starting their own library of memories. I hope someday they will be as passionate about preserving and sharing there special memories as I am.
Happy Memory Making in the Merry Month of May
Have a great month!

INGENIOUS
Supplies:
Golf
Creatable by Andrea Tachiera
Woodcut Collage Flat Paper by K&Company, background paper
Cardstock, white, dark green, kraft
Cricut, Opposite Attracts cartridge (optional)
Instructions:
This layout is a series of the same clipart from the Golf Creatable lined up to create a vertical border. The look is clean and the layout is easy. The title was created by using the dictionary pronunciation and definition of the work ingenious. I used a computer font mixed with my Cricut, but you can create it completely with a computer or using lettering templates.
4TH OF JULY
Supplies:
Patriotic Scrapbook
Scrapable by Julie Torske
Danny O Magazine Word Flat Paper by K&Company
Cardstock, white, navy, kraft
Yellow star eyelets by Making Memories
Dymo labelmaker
Instructions:
If you haven’t checked out the graphics in Patriotic Scrapbook yet, drop what you’re doing and go check it out. The graphics are vintage which is all the rage and you are given the option of them being in color, black and white and sepia tone. The Angel I used on this layout was easy to cut out for us traditional cut and paste scrapbookers. She had a halo of stars that I replaced with star eyelets to add dimension to the layout.
SUMMER FUN
Supplies:
Frosty Fun
Scrapable by Cheryl Welch
Small Polka Dots background paper by Deja Views
Cardstock, white, butter yellow
Ribbon, 3/8” brown polka dots by Offray
Ribbon, 1” sheer wired from Michaels Arts and Crafts
1” Circle Punch
Gel sticker square from Oriental Trade
Cricut, Opposites Attract cartridge
Instructions:
A Scrapable named Frosty Fun seems like an unlikely candidate for a Summer Fun layout. It just goes to show that you have to explore all the options available within your Hug Browser. I used the uppercase letters to create the word SUMMER for my title. I sized them to 1” and used a 1” circle punch to cut them out.
4EVR FRNDS
Supplies:
Boys Will Be Boys
Creatable by Carolee Jones
Cardstock, white, dark green, dark brown
Vellum, Starburst Translucent Light Green by The Paper Company
5/8” natural twill ribbon
Twig from a tree
Thin wire
Brown ink pad
Cricut, Stamped cartridge
Instructions:
Printing the striped background from the Creatable makes a great mat to showcase a photo. By layering several patterns and textures of paper you create an interesting background for your layout. On the tag, I attached a twig using thin wire to give the layout an outdoorsy feel like the photo. I realize that the spelling is incorrect for the title but when I cut out all the letters, they didn’t fit in the space I wanted to use. So I dropped the word “FOR” and replaced it with “4” and omitted a few more letters. Sometimes you have to think outside the box.
