Vacations
August is a popular month for family vacations and get-away-weekends. August was named by the Romans in honor of their emperor Augustus. During Augustus’s reign, the Roman Senate lengthened the month to 31 days by taking a day from February.
Although we always feel that the summer season is rushing past us, August 7th is the half way point. If you haven’t done all the fun activities that you’ve wanted to do this summer, it isn’t too late. Get out and celebrate such things as National Park Month and visit one of the many parks our great country has to offer. If you don’t want to venture out of the backyard, create a special day with a picnic or pamper yourself with a day just to relax. Check local and area listings for events happening in the area. State Fairs are in full swing and offer a variety of entertainment from music, to races, and livestock, among many other things. Spending time at local pools and lakes is a cool way to get through the “Dog Days of Summer.”
However you decide to spend your August days, be sure to take your camera along to capture the true spirit of summer. Enjoy!
