I’VE BEEN FRAMED

When we shop for scrapbooking supplies we look at all the fun embellishments and printed paper we can use in a layout. There’s nothing wrong with that. In fact if you are like me, it’s somewhat of an obsession bordering on insanity. Maybe crazy is a better word for it.

For this month’s submission, I took the idea of framing my photos creatively instead of just matting them and using some of those embellishments I’ve collected. With all the great backgrounds and frames within the Creatables you are bound to find what you are looking for. If you can’t find the perfect match, try layering and mixing and matching backgrounds and frames. Take your creativity off the scrapbook page and use it on a picture frame customized to match a special photo. We all love snooping around those Dollar Stores and imagining how we can make something look better by adding HugWare to it … I read the message board so I know you all are very good at that. Next time you’re looking around, pick up a picture frame and start creating.

I hope the ideas below will inspire the scrapbooker and the crafter in all of you.

Layout 1: CAMP SNOOPY

Supplies:

  • Christmas Goodies Creatable by Colleen Parry
  • Gold plaid paper
  • Cardstock, red, black. white
  • Yellow button, Blumenthal Lansing Co.
  • Embroidery floss, red, black, gold
  • Zig Zag paper edger scissors by Fiskars
  • Large Zig Zag scissors by All Night Media

Instructions:

  1. Copy and paste the red and gold frames to a workspace. (I use Microsoft Word.) Size the red frame so that the opening will fit your photo. Size the gold frame larger and layer behind the red frame. Add a black border to both frames by clicking on format, borders and frames. Choose a 3 pt line for the frames. Choose to use a black fill color. Print onto white cardstock and cut out. Mat your photo onto black cardstock and edge with the small zig zag scissors. Adhere to the printed frame.
  2. Prepare your layout by adhering a 5” piece of gold plaid paper to the bottom of the red cardstock. Cut out a 1 ½” wide stripe using the large Zig Zag scissors and adhere where the paper meets.
  3. Adhere your framed picture at the top on the right hand side. Adhere photos onto the gold plaid paper.
  4. Create your title in 3 lines and print on white cardstock. I used Impact font, size 24. Cut into three strips and fan out on top of each other. Adhere to the top left of the layout and embellish with a button tied with embroidery floss.

Layout 2: FLIP FLOP FRAME

Supplies:

  • Feathered Friends Creatable by Jeriann Sabin
  • Groovy Creatable by Melissa Shupe
  • Picture frame (Dollar Tree)
  • Typing paper
  • White cardstock
  • Fun Foam, white
  • Modge Podge or Xyron Sticker Maker
  • Assorted beads and embellishments
  • Tacky Tape, ¼” wide by Provo Craft
  • Spray varnish

Instructions:

  1. Copy and paste the blue check background from Feathered Friends to a workspace and size slightly larger than your frame. I use Microsoft Word. Print onto typing paper.
  2. Take the back and the glass off of the frame. Place the frame onto the printed paper with both the paper and frame face down. With and exacto knife, cut out the opening and outside edge.
  3. Adhere checked paper to frame with Xyron or Modge Podge. Size the flip flop graphic to fit your frame and print enough to scatter around the frame on white cardstock. Print and adhere to the fun foam. Cut out each flip flop and embellish using tacky tape and beads, eyelets, ribbon and fibers. If you use eyelets, attach them before adhering the flip flop to the fun foam.
  4. Randomly scatter the flip flops onto the frame and adhere.
  5. Spray with varnish and let dry. Apply another coat if necessary.

    2. Adhere to the layout at an angle on the left side. Place the top of a photo under the clip and adhere.

    5. Chalk the edges of a micro file folder and stamp with a date. Attach a snowflake charm using a paper fastener. Paper clip a section of the Ribbon word onto the file and add a snip of Magic Mesh. Place a photo and a piece of Rustic Collage paper sticking out of the top of the folder. Adhere to the layout.
    6. Create a tag for the bottom right of the layout and chalk the edges. Place a paper fastener at the top. Embellish with Magic Mesh, Rustic Collage paper, a fax wax seal and jewelry hemp. Adhere to layout.
