LANDSCAPE AND BUILDINGS

I love photographing landscapes and buildings when we go on vacation. For one thing it stands still and doesn’t complain that I take to many pictures. Another reason is the diversity of different regions. I’m surrounded by many species of beautiful pine trees, but imagine my excitement the first time I saw a towering row of palm trees. When taking pictures of landscapes and buildings take a wide shot to encompass everything around you and then zoom in close on something the really excites you. Maybe it’s a plant with beautiful fuchsia blossoms, or the architecture of a window, a doorway, or an arch. A countryside full of wildflowers can be as intriguing as a city full of skyscrapers. Look for interesting shadows that cast a pattern onto the ground. Be sure to view objects from different angles and take some vertical pictures.

Take the time to look at your surrounding. I think you will be surprised at the multitude of colors and textures around you whether it’s a building, your own home, nature, or your own flower garden.

Supplies:

  • Twiggy Alphabet by Lettering Delights
  • Faux Finish paper by Miss Elizabeth for background
  • Cardstock, shades of green and parchment
  • Fibers, source unknown
  • Hole punch
  • Hole paper punch

Instructions:

  1. Open up a workspace in landscape format, I use Microsoft Word. Copy and paste the Pinecone and Berries frame and Pinecones background. Layer and size to 1.5”x2” to use in the title. Add a twiggy letter H from Lettering Delights. Position this lettering nugget to the left of the layout. Add the title, A house is built with beams, But a home is built with dreams using LD Steep font, size 53. Cut out and mat onto green cardstock.
  2. Mat desired photos. Leave a 1” border on one of the mats to thread with fibers.
  3. Create a 1” green border near the bottom of the layout. Place photos along the bottom of the layout overlapping 2/3” onto the green border. Punch 2 holes above each photo to hang from the title. Place title near the center of the layout and punch holes to hang photos. Tie fiber through the holes to the pictures.

Layout 2: HEMMINGWAY’S HOUSE

Supplies:

  • Forget Me Not Creatable by Jeff Goodsell
  • Cardstock, sage green, cream, brown by Bazzill
  • Sage Grass Green paper by On A Lark
  • 1 1/2” circle metal rim tags by Making Memories
  • Jewelry Cord by Beadery
  • Chalk
  • 1/16” hole punch
  • 1 1/4” circle punch

Instructions:

  1. Trim the sage grass green paper to 9”x10”. Tear a strip varying between 2”-3”. Chalk the raw edge with brown chalk. Punch holes on the torn edges and thread together leaving a 1” gap. The easiest way to do this is to adhere the top and bottom edges of the pieces to the layout. Punch the holes, staggering the top and bottom. Thread cord.
  2. Open up a work space, I use Microsoft Word. Copy and paste the script background, daisy 2 and 3, and the watering can bouquet. Size the background to 7”x7”, the daisies to 1”, key 2 to 2.5”, and the watering can to 2.5”x3”. Add text to the background graphic to create a title. Print onto cream cardstock.
  3. Trim the background and title to 2 ½”x7”. Chalk around the edges with brown and across the lettering and mat onto brown cardstock. Add a torn piece of the sage grass green paper to the corner of the title and adhere the key on to it. Punch out the daisies and chalk the edges. Adhere them to the metal rimmed tags. Punch a 1/16” hole through the tag and add a cord. Cut out the watering can and chalk the edges.
  4. Mat a photo with cream and brown cardstock. Chalk the edges of the cream cardstock with brown. Mat another photo creating a tag. Add a small brown rectangle at the top and punch a hole and thread cord.
  5. Arrange and adhere elements and photos to layout.
