CREATABLES, RIBBONS, ANDY AND A CRICUT
What do these elements have in common? They are all used on the following scrapbook layouts. Although the subject matter and my son wouldn’t make you think of ribbons, I wanted to show a more masculine side of using them within a layout. I have to say that my son is my favorite element for this months submissions but tied for second and not far behind are Creatables, ribbon and of course my Cricut.
I’m lucky enough to have a corner dedicated just for scrapbooking which allows me to have everything out in front of me. This may sound wonderful, but sometimes it’s overwhelming. I lay my photos in front of me and then can’t decide what’s next because of too many choices. My technique is to decide on just a few elements to embellish with, lay those options in front of me and decide which works best. Put everything else out of arms reach and begin creating. This helps keep a layout clutter free and also gets you thinking of different ways to use what you have. With ribbons being one of the common threads in the following layouts, you can see just a few options for use.
Pick your favorite subject; add Creatables, embellishments and creativity and it will be a sure recipe of success.
Happy Scrapping,
Julie
OLD-VS-NEW
Supplies:
Take A Hike
Creatable by Deena Rutter
Green Houndstooth background paper by Karen Foster Design
Vellum
Assorted green cardstock by Colormates
Assorted matching ribbon
Screwhead brads by Miss Elizabeth
Cricut, George Cartridge
Instructions:
Using the BDR Foot Steps graphic from the Take A Hike creatable, I changed the brightness and contrast to 60%. I didn’t want the title border to be stark black so by changing the brightness and contrast it gave me grey. To make these changes go under Format and then Picture. Under Format Picture, click on the Picture tab and then change the brightness and contrast to 60% under Image Control.
HUNTING 2006
Supplies:
Autumn Harvest
Creatable by Jeriann Sabin
Orange Leaf background paper, source unknown
Cardstock, tan, army green
Rust grosgrain ribbon by Offray
Twill ribbon
¼” Terrifically Tacky Tape
M’bellish Copper Beads by Cousin Corporation
Large copper metal rimmed tag by Nostalgique
Cricut Stamped Cartridge
Sewing Machine (optional)
Instructions:
To create the leaf border, copy and paste LeafSmall01 graphic from Autumn Harvest creatable. Format the graphic and rotate so the leaf is horizontal. Copy and paste another leaf and rotate the opposite direction. Arrange a row of leaves down the edge of the layout to create a border to a desired length. Print onto to different colors of cardstock. Trim one strip so that it contains approximately ¼ of the leaf pattern. Match up and adhere to the border printed on the other cardstock.
LOOK WHO’S 18
Supplies:
Southwest
Creatable by Dwight Kirkland.
Soft Green Crackle paper by Karen Foster Design
Background paper, source unknown
Cardstock, tan, rust
¼” rust satin ribbon by Offray
Brown brads by Miss Elisabeth
Metal photos corners from Oriental Trading Company
Cricut, Stamped Cartridge
Decorative stamp from Club Scrap
Brown ink pad
Instructions:
Using graphics in place of letters in a title is fun and makes for an interesting layout. I used the rope graphic from the Southwest Creatable to replace the letters “O” in my title. I mixed it in with my Stamped Cricut font and gave the layout and element to compliment the picture and the background paper.
FOOTBALL 2006
Supplies:
Back to School
Creatable by Deena Rutter
Cardstock, tan, white, red, blue, yellow, black
1/3” red grosgrain ribbon by Offray
Circle punch by Creative Memories
Cricut, George Cartridge
Instructions:
After completing 2 scrapbooks chronicling my son’s high school football career, I was looking for something different than the usual football theme. I think I achieved it in using circles. The Back To School Creatable has fun elements and great colors to compliment just about any subject. I printed a full page of BGD13 and used it for the background behind my pictures. I then cut out extra circles from this background along with punching out various other circles and added circles to the tan background. Bright striped photo corners (CNR Stripes) in all the colors of the circles tie the colors together.
