CREATING WITH CREATABLES

Have you looked at the calendar? Can you believe how fast the time has gone this year? I was so shocked that I thought someone must have been playing a trick on me!

My crafty friends (er, make that crafting friends) are already busy making Christmas gifts and Christmas craft items for sale at their bazaars and for their home businesses. My Scrapbooking friends are busy as well creating holiday cards and album pages to give as gifts to their friends and family.

As for me, I am behind! I am still trying to finish Heritage albums for my two brothers for their
….well, their last years Christmas gifts! But that is another story!

As I look through my HugWare images I am amazed at the range and variety of subject matter and styles represented. There are images to fit every taste from Antique to Zoological! Each image can be used in numerous ways. You can print out the images on your printer and use them as embellishments to your paper created pages, create your pages entirely on computer and use them as backgrounds, clipart or borders. You can use them in color or black and white and with the editing programs available you can make them into paintings or sketches. What a fun era we live in!

If you lean toward cutesy pages for your little ones or if you are making a sophisticated heritage album, you can find images to use in your books.

A number of you have confided to me that you bought HugWare because you loved the look of it, but weren’t sure how to use it. I will show you how to create pages using images in a variety of ways.

Project one: Savannah

(HugWare as background Image) from Mother’s Heart A by Kae Lee Winn
(This is one of my favorite new works!)

  1. I chose an image with the Hugbug browser to match my idea and copied and pasted onto page.
  2. I used the create a cutout tool in Digital Image Pro (DIP) to remove the white from the painted version of the image.
  3. I used the antique function to make the image into sepia tone.
  4. I then added a shape and using the eyedropper tool and choose a color from the page as my background color.
  5. To add just a hint of color I placed the color version of the image on the bottom layer and I used the transparency brush to wipe away the sepia and let the color from underneath show through.
  6. Now the page is ready to add your journaling, your photo or to create your template.

Project two: Melon Face

(HugWare as an embellishment) Images from At the Fair by Nan Edwards
(I love this one and haven’t gotten to use it much!)

  1. I added the little person with the watermelon to the top of the page.
  2. I added a shape and used the eyedropper to fill it with the matching color of the melon.
  3. I cut out some of the seeds and copy and pasted them around the page.
  4. I added a shape for the background and used the gradient tool to make the colors of the mats match the color of the melon from green rind to pinkest pink.
  5. I added my photos to the mat and sized until I liked the scale of photo to page.

Project2

Project three: Sprinkler Fun For Zeus

Image from Cats by Laurie Furnell (This page is to show other dog lovers that you too can use this adorable Cat Creatable by Laurie! …yes, another one of my favorites…)

  1. I added a large photo on one side of the page.
  2. I added a coordinating background color.
  3. I wrote a little ditty for journaling.
  4. I added the kitty just to make the page more fun.

Project3

Project four: Savannah

(HugWare as Template ) Image from Simple Pleasures by Carolee Jones
(You guess it…this is one of my favorite new works!)

This is just about the simplest page you can do but I love the look of the page.

  1. On a new page I added the artwork.
  2. I used the cutout tool to cut out the inner circle.
  3. I placed the photo of Savannah underneath as the bottom layer.
  4. I used the shaped text function and added text.

Project4

Project five: Shelby and Savannah

Image from Denim and Daises by Barb Chauncey
(Yes, this one too!)

  1. I added the daisy background and flipped it around to be on the right side of my page.
  2. I added the photo and added a shaped text.
  3. I added a shape and placed poem on the rectangle.
  4. I used the transparency brush and erased a tiny portion of the photo to let the daisy show through.

Project5

Project six: Nanny and Me

This is the daughter of a dear friend and the page is a surprise to her daughter’s Nanny!

  1. I added the background.
  2. I added photos and mats.
  3. I added stamps from DIP in between title words.

Well, there you have it….some easy and fun ways to do a page. With the software of your choice and a couple a downloadable Creatable, you can have hours, days, months, and even years of fun designing everything from ABC books to Zoological placards! Our friends on the Message Board are creating items every day that will make your head spin!

Little Tips To Make Life Easier Duirng Scrapblock (or Scrapamenisa)

Start with Photos

  1. Pull out a single photo…you, your child, a friend, a pet and think about what they mean to you (or if your photo…what you were thinking or doing). What kind of background does it bring to mind? What word or poem does it remind you of
or inspire you to write? What were they doing or saying?
  2. Open up your browser and type in a word that applies. (For the Melon Face page, I typed in melon and came up with the imageart).
  3. Picture in your mind what kind of page would go with the images pulled up.
(I was inspired by the image to use the gradient tool to create a melon page and use the seeds from the image as part of the overall page.)

Start with Words

  1. Write down a thought, quote, or poem that inspires you and choose a photo from your collection that would illustrate that. (In the poem “World Without Color” I chose a photo full of color. The photo made me ponder the importance of color in our daily lives.
  2. Illustrate the thought or poem by choosing background and embellishments that convey your feelings.

Start with Creatable

  1. Look at some of your favorite imageart and let them help you choose the photo to showcase.
  2. In images from simple pleasures you want photos with a certain feel. I thought the photos of
Savannah were perfect for these images. They were soft and sweet and heartfelt.

Start with Color

  1. Open a new page and fill it with color.
  2. Choose a photo or photos that go with that color.
  3. Add a shape and add mats for the photos.
  4. Add some imageart to enhance the page.

Your assignments should you decided to accept them:

  1. Create a heritage page from two different points of view.
  2. Try journaling for a page previously created with no journaling.
  3. Take a photo of your house. Your kids will thank you someday!
  4. Be sure to take photos of the family pets.
  5. Hug someone!
  6. Do something creative!
  7. Take a walk around the neighborhood with your camera.
  8. Make some Christmas cards.
  9. Tell someone you love them.
  10. Hug someone else and smile at people who cross your path today.
  11. Say thank you to the folks in the fast food drive through, to the janitors of your office building and to the salesperson who waits on you.
  12. Meet me back here next month~

And until then….Happy Scrapping!!!

PS I will be at CKU Provo so be sure to look for me and say hello!!
