The Fun of Creating!
Hooray! It’s back to school! Time to learn new things, watch the kids learn and bloom and get back into your fall/winter routine! If you need some back to school gifts for the teachers, our ladies on the message board here always share wonderful ideas of gifts to make using HugWare.
As a special treat this month, I have asked Shelby Watkins to share a project that she created using Lori Gardner’s Creatable and a template created by another Lori - one of our members.
So much is going on not only in our lives but also in our world today! My hubby recently retired and we are happily experiencing the fun of both of us being home all day. Being retired takes up more time than I thought it would! However, it is great!
I have gone through about a month of computer woes and the world’s worst crash (in my humble opinion) but thankfully, after two solid weeks of working on it, hubby seems to have rescued my files for me! (My HugWare is safe again!)
We have so many wonderful Creatables with which to create and enjoy but I also want you to have the fun of creating more and more simple things on your own. If you need something to complement your Creatable page, experiment a bit, and see if you can create it yourself. So many things can be created with simple shapes.
Now that we are all together, let’s create something!
Shelby’s Project: Using Lori Gardners’
With all my Heart
Thank you Shelby for sharing this neat project and instructions with us. Shelby is a member of the pcCrafter community board and a very creative member!

Project One: Create a simple train from shapes
View one:
Simplest form
Use these basic shapes to make a very simple train.
To make various colors stand out, use the dodge tool, especially around the wheels.
*To emphasize the wheels I used the Almathera bevel effect downloaded to DIP from the web and the distortion tool on the gold rod from wheel to wheel.
View two:
Train Stepped up a bit
Use the skew function and multiple layers in DIP to add more depth to the train.
Add a skewed bit of black to each side to give dimension.
(I took the train apart to show you the shapes I added)
.
Add wheels on the bottom layer and create some wires with the draw a line tool, if you wish to add more interest in the wheels.
*To emphasize the wheels I used the Almathera bevel effect downloaded to DIP from the web and the distortion tool on the gold rod from wheel to wheel.
Project two: Creating from scratch
Splash a bit of color in various lines or shapes on the page.
Use the Medhi Kaleidoscope* filter to create various effects.
Separate various parts to use as stamps (in DIP) or brushes in Adobe.
(I took the design from the center of one of the random designs created.)
Use stamps to create new pages.
*This filter can be downloaded free from the net.
Your design won’t be exactly like mine but you can download mine free from my blog if you want it.
Project three: The Hunter
Image from
Fish All Day
by Rebecca Carter
Choose your favorite background from any of the Creatables or you may want to create a neutral background. Add desired artwork.
I used art from “
Fish All Day
” to add to the background. (I realized I used a deer from a kit no longer available, but you can use one from any of the Christmas kits if you desire a deer in the background.) Use the transparency feature to blend them into the page. I created the background because I wanted it to resemble a hide of sorts.
Choose a font that you can fill with color and fill it with your background paper. I duplicated the title and posted in on top of the first one. I added a shadow to give it a bit of depth.
Project Four: Word Art from the book, Whispers by Thena Smith
Whispers
by Thena Smith
I took one poem from Whispers and used various fonts on each stanza.
* Experiment with fonts and shadows/transparency to make unique journaling for your page. Check out Creatables such as
The Wedding Bouquet
,
Wedding Celebration
,
Wedding Invitation
,
Soul Mates
and
Our Wedding Day
just to name a few. Use some of these frames, backgrounds and elements to create a special card, plaque or layout for someone special.
For project 4a all I had to do was choose a pretty script font, copy a poem from Whispers and add it to this lovely background from
Our Wedding Day
. I added the background by adding a shape and using the color picker to match the color in the artwork.
There you have it-some fun and simple things to do. Everything from a train (made by you) for the kiddles. a lovely little CD booklet to put your favorite from your heart photos in to a mushy poem for your sweetheart. I hope this will keep you busy until…
You meet me back here next month!
Now for your assignments should you decide to accept them:
Take time to make some wonderful memories!
Always be a little kinder than you have to be.
Keep our service members and their families in your thoughts and prayers!
Hug someone!
Hugs,
Thena
