WHAT CAN I DO WITH…
WHAT CAN I MAKE…
It seems that no matter where I am with scrappers or crafters, I hear people say “This is really pretty or cute or fun, but what can I do with it? I thought (and hopefully I will be correct) that this would be a fun topic for this month.
Besides the traditional scrapbook pages and crafts done with the backgrounds as they are, (see project 5) you can combine art from various artists’ kits and create a stamp or brush from things you want to use over and over again (project 6 and 7)
pcCrafter comes out with some many new things and such variety each month, that you never have to miss a project because you don’t have the right stuff.
Also, I want to prove to you that you don’t have to be an “artist” in order to create and design your own backgrounds and elements. We will take a few random squiggly lines and create a page of lace in project 1. We can take circles and squares and create an object, flower, piece of artwork for our pages such as the cattails we will create in Project 2.
*These projects have been created in Digital Image Pro. The Medhi filter was downloaded from online.
Project 1: Lace from Scratch
I created a new page and added some random lines on it.
I cropped the design using just the center and applied the filter again.
I changed the color to white.
For the darker lace I added a shadow and gray background.
I applied effect again and added a pink background.
* This background will be fun to use with some of the more vintage
Project 2: Simple Cattails from Scratch
Choose the moonlike shape for grass and stretch it out
Fill with color and choose 2 color gradients.
For body of cattail choose the circle and the square and adjust them to the shape shown in illustration.
Fill with two color gradient and use dodge and burn tool for contrast.
Use filters (bumps and craters) to make it bumpy.
Add golden center and grass or water at the bottom of your group.
This is a simple version. You can add as much as you want to make it your own. (Add grass or dirt at the bottom, bend some of the leaves using distort. Add some more golden leaves for contrast. Just have fun!)
Project 3: World Traveler
If you are a teacher (or a student!) you will love the
World Traveler
Creatable by Jeff Goodsell. If you have
Board Smartz
and
A Taste of Paste
for your classroom, you will find fun ways to combine the artwork of Jeff with the verses and ideas in Thena’s books.
Create a new page at 300 dpi
Add map from
World Traveler
Add your lesson to the page and print out for your bulletin board, and smaller as a worksheet for your students or children to use in studying.
You can also use this page as a scrapbook page background and add your photos to the countries you have visited.
Project 4: Cindy’s Calendar
One of our message board friends has gotten everyone involved in making one page calendars. They are very simple but make wonderful little gifts for family and friends.
*Calendar template was from another software program.
Open up new page and insert calendar template. (Most software programs include one or have one that you can download on line.)
Add the HugWare images or photos you desire. Cindy used
Road Rippers
by Lori Lynn Simms,
Bird Life 1
by Carolyn Shores Wright, and Laurie Furnell’s
Cows
.
Add text.
Laminate if possible to protect and make it sturdier.
*Cindy cut a business card magnet into 4 pieces and put a magnet at each corner. You could also punch holes at the top to hang.
Project 5: Your first scrapbook page (for the newcomers to digital)
Let’s create a simple scrapbook page using
Summer Window
by Beth Logan
Open background paper. (I used pink rosebuds)
Add photo to background paper. ( I went to my
HugBug Browser
and clicked copy. Then I pasted it onto my background paper.)
I chose the kitten, clicked on it and pasted it onto my page. I used the magic wand to remove the white from around the kitten. I added a soft shadow to the kitten.
I added a shape and filled it with color using the color picker to match the color to the paper.
I added my text.
I always save my pages as png files in case I want to change something later.
There you have it! A very simple scrapbook page. You are now a digital scrapper if you weren’t before!
Project 6: Creating a card
Create a new page
Add image from
Summer Window
by Beth Logan.
Add kitten and text.
* I created stamps of the kittens to make it easier to use them frequently. In Digital Image Pro to create a stamp:
Go to “Effects” then “Paint Brush” then “stamp”
Choose “make stamp” and then open image.
Look in your stamps folder and there is you kitten.
* This will come in handy for creating your own background pages by stamping the image as many times as you want on your page.
Project 7: Creating a background from stamps
Create a stamp from the bird with note by going to Effects, Paint brush, stamp, then make stamp.
From your browser choose the bird and open it.
Stamp bird on page. If you used the jpg format, you will need to use the magic wand to remove the white.
If you need to remove the white, you can easily copy and paste that design on to your page as many times as desired
Add your words to the paper.
Add your text to complete your card.
There you have it-a variety of simple projects to keep you busy until you meet me back here next month!
You meet me back here next month!
Now for your assignments should you decide to accept them:
Be nicer than you have to be.
Take time to enjoy your family and friends.
See how much energy you can conserve.
Do something creative and try something new.
Hug someone!
Meet me back here next month!
Hugs,
Thena
