Be Mine, Valentine

I’m watching the local news on TV and they are showing Valentine Candy and cute items for gifts and cards. I’m thinking to myself that they should be visiting the message board at pcCrafter! Wow! The ladies on the board are so talented and creative. I’m not as much into creating crafts mainly due to time and space. I enjoy digital photography, creating digital cards and digital scrapbooking, but I really appreciate the things the ladies do and share. Pop in and see for yourself! Whether you are a “paper” person or a “digi gal” you can be inspired by the creativity in both forms.

My poor hubby not only has to remember Valentines Day on the 14th but my birthday on the 10th. He will have some help this year since it will coincide with my attending CHA in Anaheim. I’m looking forward to being with my friends at Bluegrass Publishing and seeing online friends that I see at various shows and conventions. If you are there, please look me up!

The neat thing about creating scrapbook pages is that they can be as simple or complex as we desire. We don’t really have to have paper and elements that match a theme. For a valentine, we don’t have to have hearts and flowers, just as to do doggie layouts, our pages don’t have to have doggie bowls and bones, etc., but isn’t it fun when theme things are available? The folks here at PCC have all the bases covered from the simple, whimsical, sentimental, to the realistic and more complex.

I know that this is the month of hearts and flowers, but when I saw Debbie Mumm's No Sweat, I had to include something created with it! (I’m going through this phase right now of trying to lose weight and get healthier). Cupid’s Crossing by Tina Ledbetter gave me quite a chuckle. What a fun Creatable!

I hope and pray that your new year has gotten off to a great start and that it continues to bring you happiness and blessings and that you pass them on!

Now that you have had your little break, let’s get busy and create something fun! We will start with something very simple!
Project 1: A Valentine Card for my Sweetheart
  1. I created a new page 8.5 x 10 at 300 dpi in Digital Image Pro. I added my artwork from Cupid’s Crossing by Tina Ledbetter and my verse for the inside from Whispers by Thena Smith.
  2. Check with your printer to get the instructions on how to print the inside or print your verse on a plain white sheet and attach it to the inside as an insert.

Project 2: Valentine Layout Page using Cupid’s Crossing
  1. I created a 12 x 12 page at 300 dpi and DIP and added pink as the background paper. (insert shape and fill with color)
  2. I added the heart paper and added my images. (With the pcHugbug Browser, it is easy to look for valentine subjects and then copy and paste to my page.)
  3. I added the little frame and filled it with a photo of hubby and me.
  4. I used the freehand tool in DIP to cut a section out of the pink print and let the solid show through. * I used a plug in for edges from Alienskin software which is compatible with DIP but you can use the transparency brush and brush away portions of the heart print to make it look rougher if none of your programs have an edge filter or plug-in.
  5. I added a poem from Whispers and added some shadows to each item.

Project 3: Workout page with Debbie Mumm’s No Sweat
  1. I created a new project and added my background paper.
  2. I used the color picker to make my mat the same color of pink as in the design.
  3. I add the jogging lady but when I used the magic wand to take away the white, I left the white on the right hand side.
  4. I used the wand to cut that side off but then pasted it back and filled it with my background so that it would fit perfectly around it.
  5. I added a photo to the pink mat and added the “No Pain” lettering.
  6. I used the dodge and burn tool to darken the lettering and the jogger lady’s slacks.

Project 4: Thena Doodles…

Now pick up your mouse (mice?) and let’s create a house!

  1. Create a new document in DIP and add the following shapes.
  2. Add #1 triangle and place over #2 rectangular shape to create garage.
  3. Fill with texture and choose brick texture.
  4. Add #3 Rectangle for garage door.
  5. Skew rectangle #4 for driveway.
  6. Add upright rectangle #5 for doorway and smaller version #6 as the door.
  7. Add another rectangle#7 filled with texture and create windows # 8 and # 9.
  8. Add another rectangle skewed and filled with color for the roof.

Project 6: Create a tree for your house and yard
  1. Use your insert line tool and draw the outline of a tree trunk.
  2. Create the foliage in two different parts.
  3. Fill sections with color using create your own 2 part gradient.
  4. Use the dodge and burn tool to add dark spots on trunk and branches.
  5. Apply filter effect of your choice to emphasis bark.
  6. Now you have a tree to place in the yard of your new house!
Project 5
There you have it! Hope you had fun this month and that you will meet me back here next month.

As usual, here are your assignments if you should decide to accept them:

  1. Don’t say you are not creative.
  2. Try something new that you didn’t know you could do.
  3. Encourage others to have fun and play a little bit!
  4. Take care of yourself and your family.
  5. Be kinder to everyone than you have to be.
  6. Hug someone!
  7. Meet me back here next month!

Hugs,
Thena
