August is Awesome!

I’m glad to see everyone back from their 4th of July festivities. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday! We usually stay close to home on the 4th but this time we went to a party in Pacific Beach to reunite with some friends that have moved back after probably 20 years! What fun it was to rekindle our friendship. To show her what I had been doing in those years I gave her some of these.

Friendship is such a special gift and no matter what your age or what the season, it’s always a great reason to create a special craft or scrapbook page. (Of course, in my humble opinion, breathing is reason enough to create something!) I used one of the online photo book sites and created a special book of poetry and photographs for some of my special friends. Of course you can do the same thing at home (which I had usually done) and either bind it yourself or take it to an office supply store. I loved having this special one created and bound with a hard cover. I got word back that several of them shed a few tears.

Hubby and I take our doggies out for a 2.5 mile walk every other day and we meet so many people doing the same thing. Cozy, our 12 year old doggie princess, is not as interested in meeting other dogs as Taffy (our 1 year old) but she is getting a bit more comfortable. (Thanks to Taffy’s influence and exuberance). They are actually making their own friendships on our walks when we encounter the same dogs and owners from time to time. They know every yard where doggies live and stop and look for them if the dogs aren’t visible. They seem so disappointed if the dogs aren’t where they belong.

Thinking on these things put me in the frame of mind to create some friendship pages and give you some ideas of how to create a friendship album. I have started keeping track of some of my favorite things to use in creating a book of my very favorite layouts. Pages that you create with the artwork from our PCcrafter artists show up nicely in those books.

Let’s take a look at what we can do for fun this month.

If you want to create a friendship card in a hurry--with no worry--Colleen Parry’s graphics are complete in themselves. Just create a new page and place the graphic where you want it.

Project 1: Friendship Card
    Using Colleen Parry’s Sweet Sentiments
  1. Create new page at 300 dpi (8x 10).
  2. Add background page and add white fluffy spots for clouds.
  3. Add your choice of image from Sweet Sentiments.
  4. Add your verse to inside page.

Project 2: Friendship Album
*Project one can also serve as the first page of your album.
  1. Create two 8 x 10 pages at 300 dpi and add image art from Sweet Sentiments.
  2. Add two or three shapes for variety.
  3. Use the fill with picture option to put the photos in the slots.

Project 3: Two More Friendship Pages
  1. Create pages the same as in project 2 and add images from Sweet Sentiments.
  2. Choose an image to use as background and use the transparency feature to make it almost transparent.
  3. Add some shapes on top layer to fill with photos as in previous project.
  4. *You can continue on in this vein with Colleen’s Creatable. Each page is filled with beautiful images.

Project 4: Creating from Scratch Lesson
Now to create something from simple shapes as we’ve done in previous articles.
  1. Create a new 8x 10 page at 300 and add shapes.
  2. Use dodge and burn tool to create depth.
  3. Arrange in a group.
  4. Use effects from your favorite program (i.e., kaleidoscope, tile, skew or a combination of effects) to make a unique page.
  5. Create a new red background and use the fill with texture choosing brick.

Project 5: Creating Your Superhero Page
  1. Use the brick page as the bottom layer.
  2. Add your bright page on top.
  3. Use a curl effect (download from web) to curl the page revealing the brick layer.
(Mine is Av Brothers, Page Curl Pro)
  4. Add photo in between layers and add action words.

There you have it, a start to your friendship album using Sweet Sentiments and a chance to create some from simple shapes that will be your own design.

Now for your assignments if you should decide to accept them:
  1. Think of fun, no cost ways to have summer fun.
  2. Do something nice for others every day.
  3. Read a good book.
  4. Create an awesome memory.
  5. Laugh a lot with friends and family.
  6. Try something new that you have always wanted to do or to learn.
  7. Take an online course in something.
  8. Meet me back here next month.

Hugs,
Thena
