Loving Scrapping and Creating with Laurie Furnell!
I realize that most people do not want to find mice in their house, and some go to extreme measures to rid themselves of the little critters. BUT, in the case of Laurie Furnell and her artwork, mice can be nice!! They are just the cutest creatures ever and show up in several of Laurie’s works. Her Cats collection would not be the same without them, and in Country Mice, they are downright adorable!

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love penguins—even though we may have never seen them up close and personal. (Many of us do not desire to see mice up close and personal, either.) However, we get a fun glimpse of penguins in Penguins in Paradise.

If you don’t like mice (or even penguins) you are sure to find something to love in Quilted Garden.

Let’s take a look at Laurie’s friends and create some projects.
Project 1: Learning is Fun
  1. Open a blank page and use the add shape feature to add a rectangle. Then fill the rectangle with a color from the art you add.
  2. Add the mouse and bookend from Country Mice and select one of the colors for your background color using the background tool in Digital Image Pro.
  3. Use the bevel feature (I downloaded a plug-in from the web from Almathra).
  4. Add a shadow to make it pop!
  5. Add poem from A Taste of Paste.
Project 1

Project 2: Love Handles Card for Hubby
  1. Create your new page, just as in project one, choosing a background from Country Mice.
  2. Add your mice and bevel them if desired.
  3. Add shadow. I did really big shadows just to make them pop.
  4. Add square shape and layer another shape on top.
  5. Add bevel and color. Then add shadow.
Project 2 a
Project 3: A Card for Mom
  1. Add blue background from Country Mice.
  2. Add poem from A Taste of Paste.
  3. Add image from Country Mice, beveling it and adding shadow as desired.
  4. Add shape for paper and use skew feature to make it flat under mouse’s pencil.
  5. Add poem to paper and skew it to match.
  6. Add circle shape to create holes in note paper and skew them.
Project 3

Project 4: Congratulations Card
  1. Add Penguins in Paradise image to background from Country Mice.
  2. Bevel and shadow penguins as desired.
  3. Add poem from A Taste of Paste to complete card.
Project 4

Project 5: Happy Anniversary Card
  1. Create new page and add background from Penguins in Paradise.
  2. Add images and bevel and shadow to your preference.
  3. Add verse of your choice. (This was one I posted on the message board.)
Project 4



These are some simple but fun ways to create cards. Each page could also be used to create scrapbook pages by adding photos instead of the verses.
Your assignment, should you decide to accept it:

  1. Have fun with creating.
  2. Share what you create.
  3. Smile or hum as you work... your happiness will be reflected in your pages.
  4. Send out some email cards of your work.
  5. Share some of your creations with us on the message board.
  6. Hug someone.
  7. If you don’t feel like smiling, do it anyway. It will make you feel better.
