Behind the Scenes with Carolee Jones
The neat thing about creating pages on the computer is that you never run out of unique backgrounds and new creative things to do. If you had only one piece of clipart and some good software, none of your pages would need look the same. With the effects in your computer programs and the plug-ins from online, you have unlimited resources.
This month, I’m using some Creatables by the awesome artist, Carolee Jones. I am such a fan of her work as well as an admirer of her as a person. I am using verses from “
A Taste of Paste, Poems for the Classroom
” since I have had so many requests for verses for teachers as the school year ends.
The pages were created using
Garden Flutters
and
Behind the Scenes
. These are only two of Carolee’s Creatables. She has a number of them available.
Project 1: Looking in on a Friend
I created a new page as 12” x 12”.
I opened the window image and used the magic wand to remove the white from inside the panes.
I cut out a small section of the wood grain to use as the board background. I cut a small section and then placed it in several times across the page to make it look like boards. I used the window, flowers, and butterflies from
Garden Flutters
.
I added a title and then used a bevel plug-in downloaded from online.
Project 2:
I opened the background paper as 12” x 12” size.
I added a shape and placed two rectangular shapes on each side of the page.
I used the fill-with-color or texture function and added a photo.
I used the transparency gradual feature to meld the photos into the background paper.
I chose the same images that are on the paper and applied them over the background images so they weren’t covered by the photos.
I added bevels and shadows for the flowers and butterflies.
Project 3:
I created a new 12” x 12” page and added a butterfly border.
I added ribbon and a bow at the bottom of the page.
I added a shape six times and layered them a bit.
I tilted the shapes and filled them with photos.
I added a poem from “
A Taste of Paste
”.
I added a border around the page.
Project 4:
I created a new 12” x 12” page.
I created a background with flowers from
Garden Flutters
.
I created a background effect by using a Kaleidoscope plug-in downloaded from online.
I used tags to form the bottom of page and skewed them to make them flat.
I used filters from DIP to change the texture of the watering can.
I added a frame and removed the white using the magic wand.
I added a photo behind the frame.
I used a bevel plug-in to enhance the frame.
Project 5:
I opened up a background from
Behind the Scenes
and experimented with different effects to make a unique background.
I used the Kaleidoscope effect.
I added a poem from “
A Taste of Paste
”.
Project 5a:
I copied the page and added it four times to create a tile effect.
I added some shapes onto the page and filled them with texture.
I added a photo to the page.
I added the frame from the same Creatable (
Behind the Scenes
) and removed the white with the magic wand.
I added a white shape for the title and then made it transparent using even transparency.
Project 6:
I opened the checked background from
Behind the Scenes
.
I used a Kaleidoscope plug-in to make this pattern.
I added a photo as the bottom layer and erased some to let the face show through.
I added a verse from “
A Taste of Paste
”.
Project 6a:
I added a background page.
I added a photo and a verse from “
A Taste of Paste
”.
I added a heart shape and filled it with color and texture.
I added another shape, filled it with color, and used the gradient effect for ribbon.
And now for your assignment, should you decide to accept it:
Take time to smell the roses!
Take a good look around you and find the things you like best about your neighborhood, your community, and your home.
Take nothing for granted and be thankful for everything.
Do some research about things that interest you.
Give someone a hug.
Smile even when you don’t feel like it.
Be kind to kids and small animals.
Each day, say, “I will love life today!”
Start the day with a smile and a prayer.
Meet me back here next month!
Hugs,
Thena
