Honoring Those Who Have Served
I know that you may have been expecting a collection of fall pages and may have expected me to use the fall Creatables, but I feel the need to honor our military men and women, both past and present. It may be due to the completion of a new book for the military, or the fact that I am so excited about a project that the National Scrapbooking Association is doing to provide Christmas trees for the troops for Veterans Day—or all of the above.

I love the Fourth of July celebrations when our whole nation honors our troops along with celebrating the freedom that is ours. I hope that we can give our soldiers of today, and the veterans of past wars, the honor due them on Veterans Day and take the time to reflect on just what the day is about.
Project 1: Protectors of Our Freedom
This is a very simple and quick page to do. You may want to choose a different background, but I wanted to keep it down to the basics.

Use the art from Red, White and Blue by Tammy Sherman.
  1. Create a page in DIP at 300 dpi and 8.5 x 10.
  2. Choose your artwork and add to the page. Add your color to the background.
  3. Use the emboss feature and bevel the edges of the clipart.
  4. Copy the middle of the page and paste onto the background. Use the bevel feature for the plaque effect.
  5. Copy page clipart and fill with color; black, after adding to bottom of page.

Project 2: In Honor of You
Using Lori Gardner’s All American Scrapable, we can let the pages practically create themselves.
  1. Create a new 8.5 x 11 page and add the clipart.
  2. Add a shape to fill the background page and then using the eyedropper tool, add a color chosen from one of the colors in the clipart. I chose the metallic looking grey.
  3. Bevel the grey background to give it a bit of oomph!
  4. Add your test and bevel the test to make it stand out more.

Project 3: All American
  1. Using Lori’s very bright and colorful All American Scrapable, I toned down the center of the canvas but left the sides as bright colors.
  2. I added some shapes and filled them with red, white and blue.
  3. I added the paper clips to hold the frames for the photos.
  4. I added a poem from Military Moments on each side.
  5. Add your family’s military heroes to the photo squares.

Project 3-A: All American
I just took away the side photos and added one in the middle.

Project 4: It’s Called Freedom
From Star Spangled Summer by Laurie Furnell:
  1. Create new page and fill with color.
  2. Create two inserts, fill them with texture and place them side by side.
  3. Add clip art and bevel clipart.
  4. Add text.
Project 4

These pages are very easy to do, but the idea is to find simple ways to express profound appreciation. Use these ideas for cards, layouts, or other crafts in honor of our American heroes.

Your assignment if you decide to accept it:
  1. Celebrate our freedoms and thank those who help preserve it.
  2. Don’t be afraid to share your thoughts and fears with your family.
  3. Be thankful for all you have.
  4. Find ways to thank military personnel.
  5. Hug someone!
That’s all for now, be sure to meet me back here next month!

Hugs,
Thena
