A Page is a Page is a Page
I hear from so many scrappers as they worry that their pages aren’t good enough, that their colors are not the right ones, their supplies are not the trendiest, or they fret about how their pages compare with the “celebrities”?
The neat thing about scrapbooking is that we make our own rules! What we do in our own books is up to us. Sure, we can follow design principles, choose colors that go together, or ask other scrappers for their input, but it is our book and we make the rules.
Our pages can be as simple as paper, photo, and text or they can involve many layers with multiple patterns and embellishments. We can use the mood and the tone of our page in our selection of each of these.
One of the many perks of digital scrapbooking is that should you decide to change your pages, if you have saved the working file (in Digital Image Pro it will be png), you can go back and change colors, background, mats or whatever. Until you “glue” things down in a jpeg file, you can correct those typos or even erase that ex-boyfriend from the page! And if you have several kids and want to do a book for each with the same photos….just change the text and reuse the basic page.
Since it is time for the kids to go back to school I thought this would be a great time to use our school related Creatables and various background Creatables.
Let’s create some pages now and have some fun!
Project 1: Welcome to First Grade!
  1. I used the School Spirit Creatable and added the various elements to a striped background.
  2. I took the center from the apple using the magic wand in DIP and added Savannah’s photo behind it.
  3. I added text using the First Grader font.

Project 2: Savannah Goes Back to School!
  1. I created a new file and added blue background from Backgrounds 2 Creatable.
  2. I added the ABC strip from School Spirit and the art easel.
  3. The font is chalk dust.

Project 3: Adjoining Page for Tucker
This is one of those pages you reuse…just change out the photos!

Project 3a: Rearrange Your Page
You can place one photo on left and one on right if you want to place the two pages side by side.

Project 4: School Bells are Ringing
  1. I created a new page and filled with a color chosen from my photo.
  2. I added the photo and then added an edge to it using Digital Image Pro. I added the school bell three times and made two almost transparent to show movement.
  3. I added the paper doll chain from School Rules.
  4. I began the title a bit into the bell and embossed the word bell and highlighted the edges lightly with black.

Project 5: Wait at the Gate
  1. I lined up three photos of Tucker at the Gate
  2. I erased non matching portions of the photos with transparency tool.
  3. I added a matching color using the eyedropper tool.
  4. I added a little poem.

Project 6: Your Own Touch with the Page Elements
If the image art doesn’t quite match your page, add your own personal touch.
  1. In DIP, use effects, then subtle emboss.
  2. Fill with color, one copy black and one copy white, layer one on top of the other and erase every other figure with transparency brush.
  3. Change to sepia for a more newsprint look.
  4. Change to metal in effects and then emboss.

There you have it! Some simple but fun things to do with those back to school photos! You can take these simple pages and step them up as much as you want by adding more photos, more journaling or more embellishments. And they will be flat so they won’t poke holes in your books!
Your assignments should you choose to accept them:
  1. Remember our friends and neighbors in the areas being devastated by hurricanes, fires, and floods. Keep them in your prayers.
  2. Hold your family close and enjoy every precious moment.
  3. Be the first to apologize and make things right.
  4. Hug a lot of folks!
  5. Take a lot of photos!
  6. Back up your computer.
  7. Tell the folks at PcCrafter how much you appreciate them.
  8. Meet me back here next month!
Hugs,
Thena
* PS Thank you to the folks who wrote to say they bought Where’s Thena and Whispers! That is always a thrill for me. Consider yourselves hugged!
