BACK TO SCHOOL SEASON IS HERE
I can’t let September come and go without at least doing a page or two with that subject in mind. Some parents are rejoicing and others are in tears as their children head back to the classroom. The hardest hit are the mommies whose babies head off to school for the very first time, or those who enter a new level such as junior high, high school, or college.

Of course, with September upon us, before we know it, we will be back in the holiday season and our thoughts will turn to fall and winter. I can’t even think about that yet since our air conditioner has been broken all summer and this has been our hottest one on record. I can’t even watch people in sweaters on TV at this point!

I have heard a number of moms say they wanted to create an album for their child’s teacher. Using the Back to School Scrapable by Deena Rutter, I will give you some simple pages you can create. They will be easy to duplicate for whatever number of pages you desire in your book.
Project: A Simple Album for Teacher (Using Back to School by Deena Rutter)
  1. Create a new page and add the Back to School background of your choice.
  2. Add the art images of your choice.
  3. Add shadows. I exaggerated the shadows a bit here, so you can see the items pop. For a regular and more realistic shadow, you do a much lower degree of shadow.
* For cut-and-paste scrappers, you can get this effect on your page by using pop dots. The raised effect is cute on cards that you want to give a more 3D effect.
Project 1

Page One of Album
  1. Use the same page as above to create page one of album for teacher.
  2. Add a school building and use the texturizer effect in DIP to add depth. Add a shadow to make it look 3D.
  3. Add a shape the size you want for the frame of the chalkboard.
  4. Add a second shape. Fill the middle with chalkboard color. Write on the board as if with chalk.
* I added the title poem from A Taste of Paste by Thena Smith.
Project 2 a
Page Two of Album
  1. You can copy and paste the same background for uniformity.
  2. Add a chalkboard shape and fill with the color used previously.
  3. Add a second shape and let it be the frame. Fill it with a color to match your background page.
  4. Add a shadow for 3D effect.
  5. Add words from Board Smartz by Thena Smith.
Project 3

Page Three of Album
  1. Complete as done in Page Two.
Project 4

Page Four (and more) of Album
  1. Complete as in previous pages with frames for as many students as the teacher will have in the classroom.
Project 4

There you have it! A simple and colorful album to make for a favorite teacher or, with a few changes, to make for your child. It is simple enough that it can be done in a short time but treasured for a lifetime.

The Taste of Paste and Board Smartz books were created by a former teacher (me) with teachers in mind. I hope you will check them out and see if they will be a blessing to you and your class!
Your assignment, should you decide to accept it:

  1. Make a point to enjoy each day.
  2. Determine to help other people enjoy their day.
  3. Smile or sing as you work.
  4. Don’t sweat the small stuff.
  5. Always take time to be kind.
  6. Hug someone.
  7. Give older folks your seat when possible or needed.
  8. Meet me back here next month!

Happy Scrapping and Hugs,
Thena
