In Honor of Those Who Serve
Every day I am thankful for the brave men and women who serve in our armed forces. July, with Independence Day on the fourth, seems a wonderful opportunity to express how we feel about our military both those at home and abroad.
Think of them as you go to your parades, your parties and your cookouts. Think of them as you go back home to your comfortable home and soft bed.
Thank God for them as you tuck in your kids for the night or kiss your spouse as you turn out the light.
Pray for their safety and for their families as you say your prayers.
To create cards and pages to send to, or in honor of those in the military, we aren’t limited to red, white and blue, extreme military themes or camouflage, although that is where our mind goes first.
I went to
Debbie Mumm’s Glory Glory
to find backgrounds for this project. The verses are from my book
“Military Moments”
which is available (Thank you PCC!) right here on site.
Selection Four will show you that you need nothing except your favorite photo to create a special page. Well, your photo and a bit of imagination, that is!
Project 1: From the kids
Create a new square document. I always create at 12 x 12 even if I intend to print as 8 x8 and at 300 dpi.
Add image from
Debbie Mumm’s Glory Glory
Add verse from
Military Moments
by Thena Smith.
Project 2: The Many Roles of Our Hero
Create new document and add borders from
Debbie Mumm’s Glory Glory
.
Create mat for photos.
Add photo of service member in each of these roles.
Add verses from
Military Moments
.
* Do the same kind of page for a son, husband, and father page.
Project 3: Page for Album
Create new document and add frame.
Add poem of your choice for your album.
(This verse is also from
Military Moments
).
Project 4: The Flag Goes By
I took the photo from last year’s parade as my canvas or background.
I copied and pasted the color guard back on its original spot in the photo.
I matted the photo on blue and used the textures effect on it.
I wrote a little verse and added to the page.
I used the effects function and blurred out the details while leaving a hint of the crowd standing at attention, saluting, applauding or applauding.
Your assignment, should you decide to accept it:
Be happy.
Be thankful.
Be kind.
Be nice.
Be here next month – until then...
Hugs,
Thena
