(Your Text Here)

I created what I thought was quite a lovely page - one I thought worthy of submission to a magazine. Right after I clicked the button and sent it off, I saw the offending leftover to one of my revisions-(your text here). Oh, no! It seems that when I moved the title I had not seen the first prompt and there it was, subtle and almost blending in with the background, but embarrassingly visible. I was bordering on mortification at the time but now I’m thinking it would be a cool idea for a background paper or a page title or maybe even-the title for an article!

That’s the neat thing about digital scrapbooking. You will find as you create your own backgrounds, etc. that there are really no mistakes, just techniques and designs that you haven’t thought of using yet! I have discovered so many fun things just by hitting the wrong button!

As September approaches, you may want to create a little card for your child’s teacher, start on Christmas cards, make some mouse pads for the family office, design some stationary to give as gifts, or just create some simple layouts. Let these things be fun for you and for the family. Don’t get hung up on perfection. Enjoying the process and sharing happy memories of the act of its creation can be a special part of the gift!

Years ago, my daughter and I made a shawl for her Sunday school teacher. Our daughter was only a toddler but she wanted to help. I showed her how to create the fringe for the crochet shawl and she helped to add that. Thirty plus years later I saw her former teacher and we spoke of that. Part of the gift was the family being involved and wanting to share in the creating process because of the love of the person to whom the gift was being given.

If you find that you need a gift for school teachers, Sunday School teachers, neighbors and family members, a nice gift is always a combination of stationary and cards. I have gotten some beautiful treasures from some of the ladies in the HugClub (visit the message board). Even with the popularity of email, I appreciate a pretty batch of stationary handy and ready to go. I used to include some stamps but nowadays, I’m never sure how much postage is the going rate!

For the last couple of months I have not been concentrating just on scrapbook pages but on other items you may want to create with HugWare and your computer.

Speaking of projects! Let’s create something!
Project 1: Thank You Teacher Page
  1. Create new 12 x 12 page at 300dpi. (I like to create the large file even if I may choose to print it later as an 8 x 8 or even use it on a 8.5 x 11 page.)
  2. Add shape and fill with color of your choice. Use eyedropper tool to select color from one of the flowers.
  3. Add three images from Bright Bugs by Lori Gardner to upper corner and group three together by hitting shift and alt. (This makes it easier to move and makes your file easier to manage).
  4. Copy and paste grouped images in the lower corner.
  5. Add image and use fit to page to enlarge flowers to fill page.
  6. Use even transparency selection to make it barely visible as a part of the background.
*This page can be used as a card, a scrapbook page, a plaque, a thank you note, or the beginning of an album for your favorite teacher.
Project 1

Project 2: What is a Butterfly?
  1. Create new page.
  2. Add shape and fill with color.
  3. Add images from Best Friends and Sisters by KaeLynn Winn.
  4. Add verse from Board Smartz by Thena Smith
This can be used for a child’s room plaque or a card or to put on the bulletin board in a classroom.
Project 2
Project 3:
  1. Create new 12 .12 page and add background.
  2. Add images and add shadow to image.
  3. Add shape (rectangle) to use as mat for verse.
  4. Add verse from Military Moments.
  5. Add photos of Mom and child.
Project 3

Project 4: A Blessed Christmas for Pastor and His Wife
  1. Create a new page.
  2. Add image from Spirit of Christmas.
  3. Add poem from C is for Christmas.
This can be added to a card form to make a card for your pastor or added to a plague. You can also create a special scrapbook page for them.
Project 4
Project 5: Using Shapes to draw simple elements
  1. Use the circle, triangle and trapezoid shapes to create some simple elements.
  2. Once you master the simple designs you can make them as fancy as you want using shadows, plugins and various textures.
  3. After you create the elements, use them to create your own patterned paper.
  4. Try using the distort tool in DIP to create a tile effect.
Project 5
Project 6
There you have it. Use these ideas to create some gifts and layouts for yourself and for your friends. Try creating some elements using the add shape function.

Have a wonderful August and meet me back here next month where we will find something else that will be fun to do.
Your assignment, should you decide to accept it:

  1. Be kind.
  2. Be aware.
  3. Share with others and offer encouragement whenever you have the opportunity.
  4. Create with abandon and enjoy the process!
  5. Hug someone!
  6. If you see someone without a smile, give them yours!
  7. Be back here next month.

Love,
Thena
