A Day in the Life of ... Lori Gardner
How does your day begin?
Hi everyone. Thanks for visiting me in my studio. It is one of my favorite places to be. I spend more time here than in any other room in my house. I cheated today for this picture, usually I am in my pajamas and slipper. I like to get an early start, but I don't paint until my eyes are clear. I like to do most of my pcCrafter scheduling and emailing first, then I break and get my girls off to school, have my shredded wheat, pick-up the house, and then head back down to the studio. (*see more photo's of Lori's life and other products.)
What are some of your creative habits?
When I am painting or drawing, I listen to "books on tape". I have read Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" at least two dozen times. Some of my other favorites include "Little Women" and "Jane Eyre". I am just crazy for the classics.
When I am finished with a piece that I am pleased with I treat myself to CHOCOLATE! (Hershey's Symphony is the best).
What are your future plans?
In May this year I am exhibiting my work at a show in New York. It is a trade show called "Surtex". All kinds of manufacturers from all over the world come to look for artwork to license for use on their products. I am working on my portfolio for that show. I would love to be on television someday doing crafting segments.
What kind of work are you focusing on for the show?
I have some new collections that I am expanding. A new, fresh look with bright colors.
Who do you currently have licensing contracts with?
I create about 4 fabric groupings a year for MODA intl. They are a premier quilting fabric company. I have giftware and ceramics with "Giftco" and "Center Street Design", scrapbook products with "Provo Craft", medical uniforms with "Strategic Partners" a division of Cherokee Clothing. I have also done work for "Amcal", a calendar and stationary manufacturer. I have many other irons in the fire at different times.
What do you like about your position with pcCrafter?
Above all, the people! The pcc community of artists, members, staff and friends is so unbelievably unique. They are caring, loving and creative. The talent is inspiring. I am so proud to say I work with pcc. The integrity and philosophy of the company is very motivating and uplifting. We have a group of artists that are incredible. Their ideas and illustrations inspire our customers in the most incredible ways. The projects that the members come up with are amazing. I love to see them and read about them on the message board.
What is new this year for pcCrafter?
There is always something new coming up for pcc. We added a suggestion box to the message board and have been getting some very exciting and helpful feedback. Some of the artists have been visiting there and getting good feedback and inspiration. I am always checking in, so please leave me your ideas! This past year I helped to create two new products that I am very excited about, the Card-able and the Scrap-able. If you haven't seen them yet, check 'em out! I have a few more ideas brewing that should stir up some excitement and creativity but I can't let the cat out of the bag yet so stay tuned. 2004 is going to be busy and amazing. PcCrafter is going to see more incredible art and new artists.
Final thoughts?
If I had one message to end with, it would be to pass along my belief in my faith. I love my Father in Heaven and His Son Jesus Christ. He has poured out His blessings on me and I am grateful for my life, my family, my talent, and my faith.
