SUPPLIES:

  • Color printer and paper. (best if paper is a little heavier like photo paper or card stock)
  • Inexpensive clear plastic frames. (I just used a flat one with a magnet on the back you can also buy the ones that stand up. The size doesn't really matter but I used a 5 x 7 frame)
  • Scotch mounting squares. (these are used to make things pop out. I used the mounting squares but you can use whatever to give the objects depth.)
  • A good pair of scissors.
  • Kidz Rule Creatable

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. One of the nice things about having everything in digital format is that before you make an object like a frame, you can map out the composition first. Once I had an idea of what I wanted to do and what images I was going to use, I mapped out what it would look like in photoshop. This gave me an idea of how many images I needed to print and what sizes I needed to print and what sizes I needed to print them out at.
  2. For this frame you need to print out a lot of flowers. In Photoshop I opened an 8 x 11 page and arranged 23 flowers, 12 leaves, and the cute image. I was able to squeeze all these things on one sheet of paper and then I printed out the Carrie image on another piece of paper.
  3. Once everything is printed out then you have to start cutting everything out. I know all those petals on the flowers make this really hard but trust me, it will be worth it. (If you want to make your frame extra durable you can laminate the images before or after you cut them out but it isn't necessary.)
  4. After all that cutting you should really take a break, have your spouse give you a hand massage or something.
  5. First it's important to place your photo into the plastic frame and center it allowing for plenty of space on the sides for the flowers.
  6. On the outside of the frame, tape or glue the cute image on the upper left corner of the frame and the Carrie image on the lower right corner. Make sure these images hang a little bit off the end of the frame.
  7. Now apply the flowers and try to give them as much depth as possible. Attach some to the outside of the frame, some to the back of the frame overlapping as you go until you go all around the entire frame. Stack mounting squares on top of each other to make flowers really pop out over others. Once you have finished with the flowers, stick in the leaves where they are needed.
  8. Hang the frame on the fridge, wall, or on a shelf for all to see and out of reach from the dog.
  9. Make all sorts of cool 3-D frames using different images from my Kids Rule creatables and others.
