In the Beginning
Since I’ve switched for 35mm to digital photography, my piles and boxes of pictures have decreased. This is for 2 reasons. Number 1 is that I no longer have to develop pictures that I don’t want because I can edit before ordering. Number 2 is, I haven’t been printing all my digital pictures and I’ve been storing them on DVD’s.
Both my kids have scrapbooks that are dedicated to their favorite things. When I went to get caught up on these scrapbooks is where I ran into a problem. The pictures that I needed were stored on DVD’s and I had to do some searching and reorganizing to find what I needed. Although I thought I was organized, I realized I needed a better system for labeling and storing my digital photos. Here are a few suggestions to help.
Do not rename your photos. Leave them as the image number from when the photo was taken. This will keep all your photos in the order that they were taken.
Create a file for each month of the year. Sample: 2006 – 4. Then within this file download pictures by the date that they were taken and label accordingly. Sample: 2006_4_15. Using a numerical system keeps everything in order.
Keep a journal with the dates and description of the events.
Upload your photos to an online photo service. There are many sites out there that allow free storage and reasonable rates for printing. Storing online gives you another sense of security for saving your digital pictures.
Be sure to back-up and save your photos to CD or DVD often. This will help assure that you will have them for generations.
I wish I would have started storing my photos this way IN THE BEGINNING. From now on when I need to find that special picture, I will be much more organized and will find it much easier than searching as I had to do in the past.

Walk in the Garden
Creatable by Tina Wenke
Bazzil cardstock, pale pink, ivory, light tan
Gingham ribbon, pink and ivory, source unknown
Book plate, pink, source unknown
Paper punch, hole and rectangle
Chalk, pink
Instructions:
Copy and paste to a workspace, I use Microsoft Word, Spring, Summer and Autumn Ballerinas. Size to approximately 2” wide so they all look the same size.
Create a 4” x 4” text box. Copy and paste the Summer graphic and size to 3 ½” wide and place within the text box. Add desired text to create a title or journaling square. Be sure to leave about ¾” at the top to thread with ribbon.
Copy and paste the BGD with Vine graphic. Size graphic to run the full length of the layout. Rotate graphic so that just the vine and about ½” of the pink background is on your workspace.
Create a small text box to fit within the book plate and add a title.
Print onto the ivory cardstock. Cut out the title and the book plate word trimming off the text box border line. Chalk the edge of the title in pink and mat onto light tan cardstock. Punch 2 holes at the top and thread with the gingham ribbon.
Cut out the ballerinas into squares measuring 2 ½” wide. (The heights will vary according to the graphic.) Chalk edges in pink and mat onto light tan cardstock. With the rectangle punch, create holes at the top and bottom of each graphic to thread ribbon up one side and down the other. Thread the ribbon to create a loop at the top. Arrange and adhere down the left side to the layout onto the pale pink cardstock.
Place the vine border across the bottom of the layout. Cut 1” from the left side of the border and place under the ballerina graphic on the left edge. Adhere the remainder of the vine border from the right side and tuck excess under the ballerina graphic.
Mat photos and arrange along with the title block and book plate onto the layout and adhere.

Summer at the Cabin
Creatable by Debbie Crabtree
Once Upon A Forest pine tree paper by Provo Craft
Cardstock, tan, celery green
Vellum
Antique bronze brads by Stampin’ Up
Exacto Knife
Instructions:
Copy and paste the pine cone graphic to a workspace, I use Microsoft Word, and size to 3”. Create a text box for journaling or a title. Add journaling or title changing the font color to brown. Print onto vellum
Cut out the text box and graphic.
To create your layout, cut a length of green cardstock 3” wide and adhere to the bottom of the layout. Cut 2, ¼” strips of tan adhering one along the top edges of the green border and the other one 3” from the top of the layout.
Create your title using computer fonts and then cut them out with an exacto knife. To create the name “Andy’s”, I used Storybook font. I used Rockwell Extra Bold for the word “BOOK”. Once you have your title size and you’re ready to print, select mirror image in the printing options. Print out onto the tan and the green cardstock using the tan as a shadow to the green.
Adhere your title to the layout and attach the vellum elements using brads.
Embellish with tan squares attached with brads.
