Here We Are in February 2009

Can you believe it? Someone pinch us-we are now in 2009! It seems not all that long ago that we worried about how our computers would handle the year 2000. Now before you know it, we will be at 2010! (Do you know how old that will make me?)

But I digress. I'm still without my trusty desktop computer and I'm so spoiled with all of my photos and software, and various technological and software additions that I've really missed all of those goodies. One of my goals, however, has always been to show you what fun things you can do using even the simplest of software and a bit of imagination.

Over the years I have met a number of you at trade shows, book signings and CKU's and I always consider it a special time. I also enjoy meeting you on the message board here and if you haven't checked out the board, be sure to do it soon. There are so many wonderful folks there sharing a wealth of information and talent.

Over the last few months I've had the fun of showing you how to do various things with your Hugware and how to create simple elements and backgrounds that you can use along with your Creatables. You don't have to be an expert to create something fun for your layouts, cards or crafts, but just willing to try something new and have fun!

I have a couple of things to show you this month. Let's start with creating a little country church and place it on a board background ready to add a poem or a bit of journaling. All you need is a shape or two. Let's go do it!

Project 1: Little Country Church
  1. Create a new page at the size you prefer.
  2. Add various shapes (shown) to form the building.
  3. Use fill with picture to add board to the side of the buiding.
  4. Use effects to add a texture to the roof.
  5. Use add shape to create windows.
  6. Use effects to obtain a stain window effect.
(You can fill the various spaces in the window with color.)

Project 2: Through the Keyhole
Let's use a couple of those Christmas photos we have to scrap. Don't hesitate to scrap those fun photos anytime throughout the year. (Created in Digital Image Pro)

  1. Using the add shapes function, add two together to create a keyhole effect.
  2. Fill the combined shapes with black and place it on the texture you want for your door hardware.
  3. Cut out the hole part and use the bevel effect to make it look more realistic.
  4. Add your photo on the bottom layer so you can peek through it.
  5. Place it on background of your choice.

  1. Create a new page 8.5 x 11.
  2. Add your image on the bottom half of the page.
  3. Add your wording near the fold.
  4. Use the effects menu to add a bit of embossing to your wording.
  5. Add your verse or note inside the card.

Project 4: Scrapbook page element
Using Go Go Girls by Alece Birbach

  1. Create a new page at 300 dpi.
  2. Add biker lady image.
  3. In your software program use your bevel fuction. In DIP, use your Mehi plugin. (In Adobe use layer style/bevel/emboss.)
  4. Use the magic wand to choose each section, copy the selected area, paste it on a new layer and then emboss.
  5. When finished, merge the layers to form the completed bike.

  6. Now you have a 3D element to use on your cards or page. You can also save it as a stamp in DIP or a brush in Adobe Photoshop, ready to use wherever you want to spiffy up your page. You also have a fun background page.

There you have it! A couple of easy but fun things to do with our fun Hugware images and with our own imagination as we creat a couple of things on our own.

And now for your assignment, should you decide to accept it:
Have a wonderful new year and make it a point to awake with a positive attitude and a song in your heart.

Hugs,
Thena
