If it Takes a Village, Then I Have One for You!
If, as the saying goes, it takes a village, then I have one for you!
Village Square in Autumn
by
Laurie Furnell
is the Creatable for you! This Creatable is adorable and you can have such fun using it piece by piece or combining it with elements from other Creatables by Laurie or by other artists.
I have done some very simple things using this artwork, because I want you to know that you can do exactly the same things, even if you are just starting in digital crafting.
I have been a fan of Laurie’s work since her very first Creatable here at PCCrafter and she just gets better and better! If you want to leave her a note of appreciation for her remarkable talent, why not stop by the
message board
and say hello. I’m sure the word would get back to her.
I’m getting ready to go to Vegas to Memory Trends next month and hope if any of you are there, you will find me and say hello!
For my first project I created a section of an imaginary town using Laurie’s village pieces, let’s go take a look…
Project 1: Downtown
Create a new page in landscape. Mine is 8.5 x 11 at 300dpi. I have my default set at 300 dpi in Digital Image Pro.
Add large size images at front and work your way back with smaller. Don’t fret that the perspective won’t be perfect. This is just for fun.
Add some shapes here and there for roads and sidewalks. Fill them with color.
For the background you can select a 2-color gradient fill, using blue for the top and green for the bottom or any background from previous image art that you like.
You can also use your own photos as backgrounds, just make them almost transparent so they don’t overwhelm.
Project 2: The Gazebo
For this page, I simply used the magic wand tool to take out the white and slipped Chally’s cute kids behind the art.
This is a good time to decide on a matching background if you are going to combine this page with others to create a panorama.
Project 3: The Stand
Another simple page created by just adding images to a background created from one of my photos of a pumpkin field. (Thanks Chally!)
I added Chally’s beautiful daughter to the stand.
I used the transparency tool on gradual to let the sky be lighter than the earth.
Project 4: The Panorama
Since you know ahead of time that you are going to combine these pages for a panorama, you won’t make the same mistake that I did. Create the background for each page from the same image or photo so they will blend together perfectly. Then you won’t be going back trying to blend them together. (Lesson learned.) Once I started playing with the artwork, it just evolved into a panorama.
Create a page long enough to hold the items you want to include. This page doesn’t have to be the actual size of the 8x10 pages times three, but large enough that you can get the effect of a mural.
(A number of programs will let you create a mural and print it out page by page. Then you assemble it by attaching were directed.)
Please remember to save your work often, especially if you use as many pieces of art as I did on these. I had tweaked one to perfection, when suddenly, *poof*, it was gone... program has to close, so sorry. (Imagine an extremely sad face here.)
Now for something entirely different. I am going to help you with this month’s assignment.
Project 5: Homework Helper
Create a new page at 300dpi, 8x10.
Add a shape: a circle.
Add a heart shape; copy and paste it five times.
Fill it with two colors of your choice, creating a two-tone gradient.
(Fill with color, choose first color, fill, then choose second color.)
Fill center with color and then go to effects, then filters, and choose a bumpy effect for center.
Add an edge in darker color, then soften with the edge, soft function.
Now lock it all together as one piece.
(Click shift and click on each piece to lock it together. Then click flatten. Now you can use it as one flower. Add a stem and leaves and then play with the distort feature to create some pages.)
Now you can join in the doodling craze with a doodle flower that you created yourself. Add to it, change the colors, make bouquets, and use them on your pages. Have fun!!
Be kind to each other, ok?
AND meet me back here next month!
Hugs,
Thena
