Flakes for Every Season by Carolee Jones. Images: "Heart" and "Snowman Feb".
Behind the Scenes by Carolee Jones. Image: "Pink Plaid". (Coming February 5th)

SUPPLIES:

  • I designed this layout in Adobe PhotoShop 6.0
  • Photos of choice.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. I started out with a NEW blank,white 8 1/2"x 11" page.
  2. I clicked on OPEN, where I browsed my PC to find my back ground image.
  3. I used the pink plaid background from "Behind the Scenes" and created a new layer.
  4. I resized the pink plaid on the white page leaving about an inch of white around for a border.
  5. I then changed the opacity to 40% so the pink plaid background was lighter and more pastel looking and closed out the original background image to free up my work area.
  6. The next layer I created a white oval shape and applied an inner glow to give it a 3D effect and shadow.
  7. I OPENED another image from "Flakes for Every Season", (Snowman Feb) and using the magic wand, removed the white background, then layer it over the right bottom corner of the pink background and white oval shape.
  8. I applied a 40% shadow to help the image pop out visually and then closed out the original snowwoman image, where I did NOT save changes to it, again to keep your work area neat and tidy.
  9. I then created another layer and OPENED the next image from "Flakes for Every Season",(Heart) and repeated the white background removal steps and layer it in each corner. Always remembering to create a new layer with each image so that I could manipulate them exactly where I wanted them to be.
  10. Under Edit>Transform> I flipped horizontally one of the 'Heart' images in the top left corner to help balance out page.
  11. Last of all I created a new layer of text, typing the words 'Be My Valentine' in the 'PC Carolee' regular, pt 36 font and created new layers with the same text to continue and fill around and frame the pink plaid, using Edit>Transform> Rotate to manipulate each text phrase so that the font is appropriately placed, again remembering to create a new layer with each text phrase for individual manipulation and placement.
  12. The final step can be up to you, in that you could import a photo and place in the white oval shape cropping it to fit, or you could just print it out and cut the space available for a photo and layer the whole page onto a dark red cardstock, perhaps trimming it with some fancy edged scissors.Another option would be to print it out and use as a card front for a gift.
