A Day in the Life of ... Melissa Shupe
How does your day begin?
Every morning my 5 year old comes in and jumps on my bed and quietly yet cheerfully says, "Hi Mom!" Then I know the day has begun. Pretty soon my 6 year old wanders in with her eyes half open and says, "Hi Mom. " After a couple more minutes my almost 2 year old says happily, "Mmmm-ooooooo-mmm-iiiiiii-eeeeeeee." Within a few minutes of that the 2 month old wakes up and cries a little bit stating her greeting of "where is breakfast?" Pretty much that is every day - even holidays! But I don't know a better greeting. On the days that they happen to be at Grandma's house or something, I miss that greeting!
What are some of your creative habits?
I like to study the world. Most of all I am fascinated with light and the effects it has on color. While I am waiting for the pancakes to cook or at the grocery store I like to study my surroundings and observe as I go about my day. Kind of weird I know... That's the deep answer. My inspiration comes in all sorts of ways but mostly just every day life.
What other art related jobs do you do? And who do you currently have licensing agreements with?
I started my own scrapbooking company called "The Scrapbook Wizard" about four years ago. It keeps me busy creating new products.
What are your future plans?
Long range is to paint 6 days a week. But, for now long range really means, "Dinner is supposed to be on the table in 20 minutes - what will should we eat?"
Final thoughts?
I feel like I get to "have my cake and eat it too". I have four great children who fill my days with funny, unexpected entertainment. My husband is phenomenally supportive and I love him (that's kinds of sappy!). I also get to create "stuff" which is great fun for me! pcCrafter is the frosting on the cake!
